Youth Mental Health First Aid Instructor Training

Instructors are individuals certified to teach the course in their communities and beyond. They are the key to spreading Mental Health First Aid across the country. Instructors are on the frontlines of the program and train people in their communities in Mental Health First Aid.

There are no specific academic or professional credentials required for Instructor applicants. However, candidates should have knowledge of or experience with mental health problems (either personally, professionally, or both), prior experience in training adult learners, and a commitment and strategic plan to roll out Youth Mental Health First Aid in the community.

Youth Mental Health First Aid Training

Sometimes first aid is you! A young person you know could be experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis. You can help them. Youth Mental Health First Aid is a public education program that teaches a 5-step action plan to introduce participants to the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents. The 8-hour training also builds understanding of the importance of early intervention and teaches individuals how to help a youth in crisis.

Learn from the best in the business. Certified trainers Maria Montenegro, LCSW and Irving Martinez, LCSW of The Guidance Center will teach this course to community members on how to identify mental health problems in youth. Mental Health First Aid is an evidence-based training program to help citizens in crisis, connect them with care, and safely de-escalate the situation if needed. In other words help friends, family members, colleagues, or others in the community!
