Eat. Drink. Play. at Sunset Sip 2017
On the evening of Saturday, November 11th, The Guidance Center will be hosting our 7th annual Sunset Sip: Nurturing Your Inner Child, at the Hotel Maya in Long Beach, California.
Sunset Sip is an evening for our friends and supporters to not only raise mental health awareness in our communities, but also to come together and raise funds that will allow us to continue providing services to economically-disadvantaged children and families who are struggling with mental illness and abuse.

The Bridge: Pathways to a Trauma-Informed Community
Through interviews with Long Beach and Catalina Island community leaders and Guidance Center clients, The Bridge: Pathways to a Trauma-Informed Community highlights the effects of poverty on mental health, and how cultivating a trauma-informed community is part of the wider solution for breaking the intergenerational cycle of poverty.
Poverty is devastating for so many children and their families in our communities, impacting generation after generation as the cycle persists. Facts and figures abound on this topic. The goal of this documentary is to humanize those facts, turn numbers into the faces they represent, and empower community members with a trauma-informed lens in which to see and help those affected.
Join us Wednesday, April 26 to experience the inspiring promise of trauma-informed communities through a free screening of The Bridge: Pathways to a Trauma-Informed Community, presented by The Guidance Center.

Free Screening of Paper Tigers
On October 12, 2016, The Guidance Center invited the community to join us to experience the inspiring promise of Trauma-Informed Communities through the free screening of the documentary film, Paper Tigers.
Paper Tigers is a testament to what the latest developmental science is showing – that just one caring adult can help break the cycle of adversity in a young person’s life.
Together with Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD), The Guidance Center recently launched a similar pilot program at Beach High School this year. Thank you to all who joined us for the powerful screening, the community plays a critical part in the success of the program and we look forward to sharing our progress with you as we move forward.

“Fear. Obstacles. Uncertainty. Pride. Confidence. Hope. These are the roller coaster of emotions I’ve been experiencing as I train for the Sean O’Brien 50K Trail Run on February 6, 2016. Why did I say yes to a 31-mile mountain run with an elevation climb of 6,500 feet?”

SAN PEDRO CLINIC’S OPEN HOUSE
Thank you to everyone who attended our San Pedro Clinic’s Open House on Wednesday, June 17. We are so happy to be in this new space, and our San Pedro staff and clients are especially thrilled to call this new location home.
We’d like to give a special shout out to Timothy, a former 19-year-old client, who chose to share his moving story during the open house. And special thanks to the Children’s Benefit League who made a generous contribution to help fund our San Pedro Clinic’s play therapy room (pictured above). Their continuous support of The Guidance Center is making a world of difference in our clients’ lives.
