In many communities, mental health is not always openly discussed. That silence can make it harder for children and families to seek the support they deserve. For Irving Martinez, LCSW, helping break that silence is part of the work.

Irving serves as a clinical supervisor at The Guidance Center’s Compton clinic. He has been with the agency for eight years, beginning his journey as a field clinician before stepping into a leadership role. Over time, he has supported countless families while also mentoring clinicians who carry this work forward.
Irving holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Southern California and a Pupil Personnel Services Credential. Throughout his career with The Guidance Center, he has been trained in several evidence-based practices, including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Integrative Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. He is also currently in the process of becoming a certified Grief Educator.
These trainings have strengthened his commitment to supporting children and families navigating trauma, grief, and loss. Whether working directly with clients or guiding clinicians in their practice, Irving approaches each case with thoughtfulness, cultural awareness, and a deep respect for the lived experiences families bring into the room.
After more than seven years with The Guidance Center, Irving remains committed to serving the Compton community. His leadership reflects both clinical expertise and a belief that mental health care should be accessible, compassionate, and responsive to the needs of the families we serve.

Community care is part of a larger vision. One rooted in equity and in the belief that all children and families deserve access to mental health support, regardless of background or circumstance.
