“As mental health providers, we work alongside parents to strengthen relationships and mitigate the cycles of abuse that are often passed down from one generation to the next, and bring hope and healing to traumatic experiences.”

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and, with the COVID-19 pandemic, it is critical now, more than ever, that we be kind to one another, ourselves and our children. We can do this by engaging more, virtually or from a safe distance, with our own families, our friends and our neighbors. Being a support to someone in need is so important right now.

Priscilla Gomez, LCSW is a clinical therapist and mental health consultant at Educare Los Angeles at Long Beach, a partnership with The Guidance Center made possible by First 5 LA funding. In the video below, Priscilla sheds a light on the challenges of parenting and reminds us of the importance of building strong relationships and having family connections. She shares with us how we are all interconnected and have the ability to impact each other’s lives and make a difference.
